New Addition to Apartment Family

Last weekend I came home to a furry orange new friend--Jackie the cat. Jackie is an 8-month old cat who will be staying with me and my apartment housemates for one year due to her owner's housemate's allergy to cats. I've been a dog person all my life so far--my family has owned few german shepherds before I moved to the states. I've never actually thought about adopting a cat since I don't quite know how to interact with them. As expected, Jackie didn't seem too happy about me patting her head, as she responded by biting my hand lightly. She seems a little stressed to be relocated to a new environment at first. Over the past few days, however, she has begun to warm up to us a lot more, squeezing closely to us and playing games. We are still in the process of training her to follow some rules such as not walking on the dining table and dishwasher. She is surely a lot more unpredictable than the dogs I used to have, but I am glad to have this quiet little furball to keep me company.

  1. I have always been a dog person too! Me, my brothers, and my dad all have a history of cat allergies that has given cats a bad wrap with my family. However, I am jealous of how much easier cats are to maintain and take care of. You can even leave a cat when you go on vacation. That is one cute cat and maybe my allergies will go away some day. It sounds like you and your suite-mates are adopting this animal as one of your own pretty quickly. By the way, nice picture!

  2. I am a dog person too and have never had a cat before, but I believe cats have their own charming points. They don't bark and no need to toilet train, right? I also heard that they clean themselves, so you don't have to wash them as often as dogs. Is that a picture of your cat? She is adorable!

  4. To be honest, I have never owned a pet in my life partly because of my mom's allergy and my fear of being responsible for a life other than mine. However, lately I have been thinking about adopting a dog once I find a place back home in Korea. Anyways, it is great to hear that your cat is starting to warm up to you guys and good luck with training!

  5. I am a dog person as well! In fact, I have something against cats. I don't know why and what is the exact reason. Maybe because when I was younger, I nursed a few stray kittens for a couple of weeks and one day they disappeared and never came back.

  6. Haha I have to agree with everyone and add that I am also a dog person. I don't seem to get along with cats. It could be the fear? I heard animals sense fear and I can't help but become awkward and hesitant around cats, so they start to taunt me, scaring me even more. But I have to say, your cat is so adorable! I hope training and readjusting goes well!
